A Tennessee native, Austin Smith is no stranger to Southern comfort food. Born in Memphis and raised in Nashville where his parents worked in the music industry, Smith is an expert on southern-style hot chicken, a Nashville staple.

After spending a decade in the restaurant industry, holding a number of positions from busser to manager, Austin earned a degree in political science from Lipscomb University. Shortly upon graduation, Austin recognized his true calling in the restaurant world and left politics behind.

Austin went on to work at The Grape and 360 Wine Bar Bistro with now-partner Nick Jacobson before becoming a wine and spirit distributer. It was the latter position that fueled his desire to open his own restaurant in 2014.

Austin currently resides in Hermitage, Tennessee, with his wife, Amanda, their children Harper Anne, Ellie Kate and Gary Wayne II. In his free time, he enjoys spending time on the water at his property on the Duck River in Bucksnort, Tennessee. He is also an avid softball player, a hobby that ultimately brought together his dream – his first team became the namesake for Party Fowl.

Nashville native Nick Jacobson is co-owner and partner of hot chicken restaurant, Party Fowl.

After pursuing career paths in law and venture capitalism, Jacobson quickly realized his passion lay in the restaurant industry when he began working as an investor in The Grape, a franchised wine bar concept out of Atlanta. After a few years, he broke away from the franchise and became independent, opening 360 Bistro guided by his love of wine. Jacobson has successfully run the restaurant for 11 years now as owner and wine director, and brings his experience and passion for the industry to his newest venture, Party Fowl.

It was at 360 Bistro where Jacobson met his partner, Austin Smith, who had been toying with the idea of opening Nashville’s first full-service hot chicken restaurant. The pair opened Party Fowl in 2014, and continue to work together on the project.

He currently resides in Brentwood, Tennessee, with his wife, Ashley, and their children Cameron and Avery. In his free time, Nick enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, and enjoying the great outdoors while skiing, running, and scuba diving.

Nashville International Airport is a fast growing airport

Nashville is growing so fast, even the airport is in on the game.

Nashville International Airport is the country’s fastest-growing airport for its size, according to an industry analyst group.

The airport has been awarded the Airport Traffic Growth Award from Airline Network News & Analysis (abbreviated anna.aero), according to a news release, recognizing the airport’s 11.2 percent growth in passenger traffic during 2016 in the mid-sized airport category.

The recognition is the latest example of Nashville’s boom correlating to growth at the city’s airport, which has consistently set passenger volume records in recent years. More than 12.9 million passengers traveled through the airport in 2016, according to the release, its fourth-straight record-year. The airport expects to beat that figure by more than a million passengers in 2017.

To accommodate these new travelers — and, if the city’s business leaders get their wish, support further growth to come from added international flights— the airport recently unveiled a $1.2 billion expansion plan, dubbed BNA Vision.

“BNA, like Nashville itself, is on a pace of rapid growth, and all projections indicate that trend will continue,” Rob Wigington, Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority president and CEO, said in today’s release. “The robust increase in travel demand underscores the need for BNA Vision, our dynamic growth and expansion plan designed to keep Nashville International Airport a world-class facility for today and beyond.”

Corral FAQ

What do you mean by Race Pace?
Your race pace is how many minutes it takes you to run or walk one mile. Say it takes you ten minutes to run one mile. That means that your race pace is 10 minutes per mile.

How can I find my corral assignment?
You can confirm your Start Corral assignment approximately ten days prior to that event on the Your Races page in your RAM Racing account. Your Start Corral will be listed next to your name, city, state, and age division. Start corral assignments will also be sent in a Runner Info email approximately ten days prior to the event.

What is a Preferred Start Corral?
Preferred Start Corrals are the first corrals to start each race, and are open only to those participants who meet specific criteria. For more information about Preferred Start Corrals please see the section above.

How am I assigned a corral if I don’t meet the qualifications for a Preferred Corral?
Runners not meeting the Preferred Start Corral criteria, or choosing not to apply for a preferred corral, will be assigned to an Open Start Corral. Open start corral assignments are based on the anticipated pace per mile entered during the registration process. Open Start Corrals begin the race after the Preferred Start Corrals.

I want to run with a friend/family member but we were assigned different corrals. What should we do? You can move back in corrals but not forward- for example, a runner assigned to Corral A may line up in Corral C but a runner assigned to Corral C will not be allowed to line up in Corral A.

Why does RAM Racing use assigned start corrals?
Assigning start corrals based on anticipated race pace allow us to group like-paced participants together, helping to ensure a safe, fun race experience for all participants.

Nash Trash Tour

Nash Trash Tour: What You Need To Know About The HILARIOUS Nash Trash Tour

The Nash Trash Comedy tour is one of the most fun things to do in Nashville. Once you climb aboard the famous pink bus, no holds barred. If you’re easily offended by bawdy humor, the Jugg Sisters aren’t for you. However, if you can take a joke or two, you need to go online and book your tour today. The video below will give you an idea of what you can expect from the tour. However, I did choose to edit out the minute of off-color comedy in case little ears are around when you press play.

The tour is BYOB, and I highly recommend taking a bottle of water or your drink of choice along. The bus stops at the Country Music Hall of Fame for a restroom break, and Nash Trash guests may buy overpriced drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, in the lobby of the CMHOF and bring them back on the bus. However, it makes a lot more sense to bring your own. If you forget to pack a drink before you leave your house or hotel, you can always get snacks and drinks inside the Farmers Market before the tour starts.Z Facebook 1

Please, note the big pink bus is NOT a party bus. While you’ll feel like you’re having a party during the tour because it’s interactive and loads of fun, bachelorette parties are not welcome. The Jugg Sisters don’t want THEIR party to get out of hand.

The Nash Trash tour takes you around Nashville, and the Jugg sisters tell stories about people and places in the city. However, the Nash Trash tour is first and foremost a comedy show on wheels. Its primary purpose is to make you laugh until your cheeks hurt. If you want to really see Music City, there are other tours for that.

The Jugg Sisters Original tour books months in advance. It’s a rare occasion that you can book your trip with the sisters without planning a week, if not months, ahead of time. Check their calendar, and make your reservation today.

Now, go ahead, and watch the video. You’ll get a sneak peek of the tour and two reviews immediately following those highlights.

ABOUT CMA MUSIC FESTIVAL 2015

CMA Music Festival Sets New Record at $46.8 Million in Direct Visitor Spending

NASHVILLE—The 2015 CMA Music Festival generated a record $46.8 million in direct visitor spending, an increase of $7.5 million over last year according to numbers released by the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp. (NCVC) today.

“The CMA Music Festival is a big part of our brand as Music City, and the event’s enormous economic impact through direct visitor spending is a great thing for Nashville,” Mayor Karl Dean said. “The CMA Foundation’s contribution of instruments to Metro Schools students further strengthens the Festival’s positive impact. I appreciate both the CVC and CMA as incredible partners in bringing more visitors to Nashville and congratulate them for the continued growth and success of CMA Fest.”

This year’s CMA Music Festival sold out seven months in advance prompting a record-setting daily attendance of 87,680 fans – besting 2014 numbers by 9.6 percent, the CMA reported in June. According to the NCVC, the estimated number of room nights for Festival attendees was 158,000—up from 150,000 last year—and the average length of stay was 5.2 days.

“As the city’s largest event, CMA Music Fest continues to outperform itself year after year, generating more visitor spending than any other event and providing prime-time national TV exposure for Music City,” said Ken Levitan, chairman of the NCVC Board of Directors and President of Vector Management. “The CMA’s expansion of the footprint, offering more free music than ever before and extending event days all resulted in record spending, record attendance and record room nights sold. These figures show the CMA’s strategy of keeping the event at an affordable value is important to the overall growth of the event.”

For the first time, the NCVC was able to calculate non-ticket holder direct spending, which represents an additional $13.6 million in direct visitor spending, driving total spending to $60.4 million.

“We worked very hard this year to let local and regional residents know that you don’t need a four-day ticket to enjoy this event,” said Sarah Trahern, CMA Chief Executive Officer. “There were seven free stages throughout downtown and it is rewarding to see our attendance increase in those areas. It is especially nice when you consider the positive impact on the city, which has been an outstanding partner.”

In addition, the NCVC’s survey results showed:

– 83 percent of attendees traveled more than 50 miles

– 46 percent of attendees were attending for the first time

– 87 percent indicated they were likely to return next year

– 55 percent have an annual household income of $75,000 or more

– 10 percent of visitors were from international markets

The figures are based on the NCVC’s onsite/in-person surveying of 2,219 attendees during the event in June.
